So… I haven’t been blogging much of late. Please read the reasons why:

For most of the past year, I have increasingly struggled to see because of completely curable cataracts. Necessarily, my reading and writing fell off increasingly. Always an avid reader, I have been distressed not to be able to see well enough to read any longer. I haven’t been able to see well enough to drive for over a year now. I had to entirely give up my art photography. And, my production of new artworks and my three WIPs had to be completely suspended.

I’ve already had one of the eyes corrected and am awaiting the second, due the 2nd…

The following poem is very much for mature audiences. It is raw. You will be offended.

Walking… oh, please… don’t notice me…

The ruining corridors of pain…
These hallowed halls of entropy…

What learning ‘pon the blackboard
With vile tutelage in your halls?
Delinquent roving gangs violate your corners.
The squalid gasconade tumbling around me…
Filling my ears… coloring my fears… bleeding my soul…
Head down, closed arms ‘cross my books…

Walking… oh, please… don’t notice me…

I won’t! I won’t play your game!
I won’t be part of your juvenile throng!
So now you want to punish me.
Think, together, you’ll teach me to belong.

The Left still defends Democrat powerful men against crowds of women, even when those women are liberal too.

Is it ever going to change?

Will #MeToo mean anything at all in making things better for women? How can it when liberals and progressives are using the self-same tactics and talking points to defend Cuomo which continue to be employed by conservatives and republicans to defend Trump? What is it now — eight women accusing Cuomo? Yet still, the best Left can seem to muster is that it’s a matter of degrees of badness — in other words: What women accuse Cuomo of isn’t as bad as what women accuse Trump of doing. Because Cuomo is our guy… Because our guy isn’t as bad as…

They way the rightwing talks about Trump makes my brain hurt.

The rightwing conservatives aren’t even trying to be subtle anymore. Not only do they have a golden idol of Trump on display at their annual CPAC convention, their stage is the actual Odal rune of the Nazi SS! They’ve abandoned all pretense of American democracy. They have become the constructors of a simulacrum — their own post-reality.

According to Wikipedia, a “simulacrum(simulacra): Something that replaces reality with its representation… an image without the substance or qualities of the original. It is no longer a question of imitation, nor duplication, nor even parody.”

The event organizers claim it’s just a coincidental…

Half a million dead in a year.

Half a million members of our American family lost, loved ones dying alone because we were forced to stay away by this pandemic.

The deepest cut is that most of these coronavirus deaths should have been preventable with even the most basic of nationally organized standards of mitigation — with just the most basic unified leadership.

How many families mourned in isolation, unable even to hold a funeral or memorial gathering for lost loved ones?

Do we owe respect in death to a man who in life espoused only disrespect?

“I am to die steeped in treasonous guilt, my name cursed, my memory unmourned.” –Paul W.S. Bowler

As regards how people are reacting to the death of Rush Limbaugh and demands for more “respect for the dead” — He now reaps what he had sown all his life. Limbaugh was man of caustic ignorance and cruel bigotry.

To those demanding kind words in the light of his passing, as I have commented elsewhere over the course of the past few days: Have you any kind words for Hitler or Stalin or Mao? Have you kind words for Nathan Bedford Forrest…

We Will Not Live in a World of “Alternative Facts”

To a generation of Christian conservatives, I’m radical and heretical; I am not a true Christian in their eyes. Why? Why is my Christ-centered faith not Christian? It is the faith I was taught by their generation. It is the faith I learned in the words of Christ, set out in red letters in the big family Bible. Moreover, it is basic human decency. At the core of our American Ideal is working for a more perfect union — which must require, by its very nature, compassionate wisdom, equal justice, and truth in governance. Compassionate wisdom was poured into me…

The Two Cannot Be Mutually Exclusive.

The way forward cannot again compromise with hatred and bigots. From the very founding of this nation, our American history has been one of compromise with white supremacy and bigots. The long arc of our national history led us to what now must be a national reckoning.

For more than half a century, the GOP used their power to undercut our democracy itself, becoming completely divergent from our constitutional democratic system. It has been calculated and systemic. Under a veneer of religiosity and patriotism, the party…

A Nest of Vipers Bred In Our Midst

The insurrection, directed by Trump, is the snake eating its own tail. He is the head of the snake. These people are scared of our changing world — so scared that they have made themselves enemies of democracy — demonstrably the most dangerous enemies of America. His base is a nest of vipers bred in our midst; they are anti-democracy domestic terrorists.

At rallies, Trump recited the Al Wilson lyrics of “The Snake” and has shown himself to be the snake in his quoted fable. And the GOP bred the snake and the viper’s nest, spendking decades sewing doubt and…

Cloaked in Religiosity and Feigning Moral Rectitude, the GOP Graspingly Clings to Power with and Ideology Founded in Dominionist Theocratic Corporatism.

When the Democrat Party became the party of civil rights, the Dixiecrats who fled the DNC were lured in by the GOP and Nixon’s Southern Strategy. The Republican Party has been degrading ever since, year by year, election by election. At every level of government, we’ve watched the GOP use their power to disenfranchise voters and to bully or buy the rest of the free world into just looking the other way. …
