Actually, fiction does this all the time. Think of Doctor Who, Stargate, Star Trek, etc. They all incorporate themes our society needs to work on, and they explore scientific theories in storytelling in a way that is relatable and memorable. Authors like Lois McMaster Bujold do the same thing. There are lots of hard-science fiction writers. And, there are even more social conciousness fiction writers.
