Actually, in the States, you can sue someone for just about anything. People have even sued hospitals to prevent particular kinds of care being provided. Back in the 1980s, a family of Jehovah's Witnesses sued a hospital, over them from treating their family member with a tranfusion. https://www.oklahoman.com/story/news/1990/04/29/parents-hospital-blood-transfusion-jehovahs-witnesses-claim-treatment-violated-religious-freedom/62567133007/

Also back in the 1980s, a mother sued the husband of her daughter (who was in a coma) to prevent him approving an abortion to save the daughter's life. If I recall correctly, the case was framed as a custody suit for the fetus which was not far enough along to be viable. I can't find a link to that old news article. The news items that come up in a search are too cluttered with actual cases of people being sued these days. There are tons of those cases in the news right now.

So yes, Mother could have sued my husband to try to stop him from approving an abortion. With today's laws in some red states, she could have sued the hospital, the doctor, the nurses, and even ME to try to prevent it.
