I am a progressive, proud liberal. I believe America is and always has been proudly liberal and progressive. Why do I believe this? We may not see it now because we’ve progressed so far; but our democracy was founded on revolutionary liberal progressivism. The idea of doing away with monarchy was radically progressive at the time. It was liberal progressive ideals which threw that over-taxed tea into the harbor and carried our democracy forward.

Everything that has made our democracy has been progressive. It’s that progressivism that made America a preeminent nation in the world. Institutionalized racism and misogyny have long been the banes of human existence around the world, and here in our America too. Overcoming that has been the long, progressive campaign — and we have been winning, bit by hard fought bit, for 250 years. Yet, it’s a campaign that only exists because of the founding liberalism of our democracy and the ideals of progressivism fired in the minds of every American since by the Founding Fathers, even with all their human and 18th Century failings.

And, that is why today’s conservatives are lying, cheating, and legislating anti-democratic ideals to undo it all. It’s a brand of so-called conservatism that has always been with us; it has always been an anti-democracy dogma of opinion politics founded in misrepresentation and greed, and in promoting the ignorance of otherism. Sadly, it has always been so-called conservatives trying to prevent and/or undo all that progress and liberalism. Regardless of party identification, the only things such conservatives have sought to conserve is their unfettered access to ever increasing wealth and power, at the expense of the hardworking middle class and poor who create that wealth and power. They would take us back to feudalism.

Specifically, conservatives would have us mired in a theocratic corporate feudal state in which we are all expected to just shut up and work until we die. They need the extremism of theocracy to impose such a system. The unholy alliace of god and the almighty dollar is the religion of their theocracy. They need the masses brainwashed to believe it is godly and good for the soul…
