Any grown person still doing that has issues. It's a weird white woman thing. Ethno-curiosity like that is just insulting. It's also hella creepy.
The last time anyone asked to mess with my hair, it has been white women. Every single time, it was creepy.
I am a white woman. My half-Persian son jokes that I'm so white I'm almost transluscent (I am exceedingly fair-skinned).
And, I have usually sported very long, natural red locks – anywhere from waist-length down to my ankles. I have had Black girls ask to "fix" my hair. The last time that happened was in high school. In fact, I learned to braid my own hair through their ministrations.
The last time a white woman asked to touch my hair, I was 40 and pregnant. She was probably in her 60s. She approached me in the grocery story and wanted to touch my long braid. She also wanted to touch my pregnant belly.
Creepy much?
