Back in the 1980s I actually wrote a paper on that back during my fashion design studies. The paper drew a line between the advancements of women's rights and the evolution of women's fashion. It seemed so obvious to me. My academic advisor (a woman) loved it – but the jury of otherwise male academics panned it.

Anyway, it seems to me there is likely a similar correlation in men's roles in society.
