But, free speech rights were never intended to defend harmful lies – such as Alex Jones' interminable assault on the Sandy Hook families. Speech may be free, but – whether good or bad – there will always be consequences for our speech, just as there are consequences for our actions.

To my mind, that's not "cancel culture." It's CONSEQUENCES.

It's a basic law of the universe: For every action, there is an equal reaction. That law holds true for physical action and for free speech.
