Check for the schedule at the Orpheum! That's a must too. And, DO NOT miss Beale Street!

The Memphis In May International Festival is THE global barbecue event. If you are there in May, just be sure to ask what animal the meat is from if you're at all squeamish about that kind of thing. Gator and rattle snake are not unheard of, among other exotic meats.

I presume you will not be there in May for "Memphis In May." Which is a shame. The festival Beale Street Music Festival is earlier in May and this year it features Robert Plant, Earth Wind and Fire, and Ziggy Marley in the lineup.

You might want to check out Mud Island while you're there, including the Mud Island Amphitheater. Oh, and the Memphis Music Hall of Fame – it's kind a kitchy. I'm sure you already have Graceland (also very kitchy) and Sun Records in your planning. Hope you're including a riverboat tour as well.

If you like that kind of thing, the Woodruff-Fontaine House Museum is cool.
