Couldn't it be though? First, the virus doesn't die immediately upon the deer's heart stopping. It would still be active while the deer is being prepped for butchering. That entails bleeding out the carcass – a task that usually means the hunter (and maybe his family) getting some of that blood on themselves during the process.
