Definitely not. I check the profile and see if I'm interested in their writing from their titles. I also check for the partner star or the FOM badge for random folks following me, especially if they followed me without having engaged on any of my posts.

Also… yes, a lot of those random followers are scams. Keep and eye out especially for people who respond on your posts or comments directing you to an external link or app (typically Telegram or WhatsApp). Those are scammers, usually using cloned accounts of Medium folks we know and trust.
