Don't forget the little girls in the 60s and 70s required to wear skirts or dresses – no shorts allowed. At least boys could angle their backsides to slide down mostly on their shorts. For us little girls forced to wear dresses, it was exposed thighs all the way down. If the dress got caught in a roll, it would be scorched backs too!
