Excellent article. I too grew up in that fundamentalist evangelical fear control. Enumerating every sin and trying to name every person for whom I was warned I need to pray for or they would be lost was how I fell asleep each night. And, I always woke with a guilty conscience because I always fell asleep before I got through the list. I often feared someone forgotten would die unsaved and it would be my fault.

Plus, we had the lesson that because Jesus was in our hearts that everything we did we forced Jesus to do it too.
