Except… that's not true of Jesus' teachings. A proper scholarly read and discernment will show how women were NOT so condemned. Jesus Himself placed Mary at his feet, a place of the highest honor among His desciples. And, He defended her right to that honor. (Recall that at the teacher's feet was an honored position for which ancient followers even went as far as to battle each other.)
Religion is not faith. Religion is created by men to contain and limit what they cannot grasp is unlimitable. The Bible is written by men, inspired by God to relate their understanding of God's message. The entirety of it is written in ancient times and cultures and traditions. The core meaning – and true faith – is lost when people focus on those ancient traditions instead of the message.
The over arching message of the Bible is God's love for us and God's desire for us to be in right relationship. The most frequently repeated themes in the Bible are of love and justice. The single declarative statement in all the Bible of just what God is tells us, "God is love." The same passage tells us that if we know love, we know God. It is we who must read with discernment, instead of attempting to affirm our religion.
Even if you do not believe in a deity, the core meaning remains: right relationship with humanity in love and justice. Isn't that the point of all our higher ideals?
