Except, those are for profit publishing houses — incorporated businesses. Those people are being paid to publish. I would add that the process with publication houses if far more protracted than any pubs here on Medium. It can take months to even hear if your writing will be considered for publication — and taking your draft to publication may be a couple of years in the making. And again, the staff of publication houses are salaried employees.

The pubs here on Medium are NOT publication houses. Editors and owners are strictly volunteers with their own writing pursuits and their own IRL jobs and lives. They are not being paid to run the pubs.

I don't mind a couple of days. If it's longer than that, I'll usually just remove that draft from the pub. Then, I'll select a different pub and submit. Or, I'll publish straight to my profile in my own right.
