Excuse me! There is and always had been a Christian Left. I am a very lefty progressive Christian and am a member of multiple progressive Christian forums and groups. The fact is, the progressive Christian has always been in the thick of progressive movements. We do it because it’s the right thing to do, the Christ-following thing to do. We don’t blather about it, we just get on with it.

“Do all the good you can. By all the means you can. In all the ways you can. In all the places you can. At all the times you can. To all the people you can. As long as ever you can.” ~Wesleyan saying

And, in case you’ve never noticed, Christ told us how to be known as his. He commanded that we were to be known by our love for one another, in His own words in John 13:35.

I’m a pro-choice, inclusive, Christian proponent of social and economic equity and justice. I am all those things BECAUSE of my Christ-centered faith.

Your premise is flawed because you base your understanding of “Christian” on the writings of Paul, the Pharisee who converted. Everything written about the life and teachings of Jesus Himself leads the Christian left. Focusing on His teachings and life, striving to be Christ-like, is why we are progressive Christians. Jesus was inclusive, progressive, and condemned no one. He even elevated women. The women were the first messengers of his ministry. He even gave a woman a seat at his own feet; if you know about the ancient world, you know that men would kill for the seat at the teacher’s feet — it was the most privileged place for followers of a teacher or philosopher.
