Have you ever performed onstage? Anything unexpected… any unscripted tangent causes that kind of tension. He didn't know a slap was coming. He knew something was wrenching his so-far smooth and unchecked performance.

To say he "knew it was coming" is to infer the entire episode was itself scripted. I don't believe that.
