He sets off my patriarchal oppression alarm. The thing is, what American Evangelicals follow is actually a twisted version of even Pauline doctrine. They choose only the most oppressive, most pharisee-ical (Paul was a pharisee before his conversion) pronouncements which they can link to a twisted interpretation of the most oppressive Old Testament doctrines. They look for selective outtakes from Pauline and Old Testament scripture which they can use to control who is allowed access to God, who we can love, how we can love, and dictate whom we are expected to condemn with hatred and bigotry. And, in all they cherry-pick from scripture, they eliminate the God who is love from their religion of control – it ceases to be about faith, God's grace, and the way of Jesus.
