In other words, don't ask God for an abundant harvest from our vegetable patch. Prepare the soil, plant the seed, tend the garden – even when that means doing what it takes to keep that patch from being ruined in a late frost. I learned that lesson as a child in my Gran's vegetable garden when we had to spend the night in turns keeping the warming pots going.
