I applied to a publication early on too, after becoming a member. An editor there wanted to change everything. I pulled my piece from consideration.
I also had one of my writers in WE PAW whose dealing with a "mentor." My writer submitted a lovely poem for one of our ezine challenges. After I had accepted her contribution as she wrote it, she offered an edited version of her text her "mentor" had foisted upon her. It was full of that pretentious use of language and esoteric terms that to some people passes as "smart" poetry. That type of poetry can be so full of "smartness" as to be rendered incomprehensible – his changes were that kind of
"smart."
I told my writer I preferred her previous version. I published that version in my ezine issue. Her mentor came onto that post and excoriated me for contradicting his mentorship.
I was unmoved.
