I can't say I agree with everything here. I mean, I get your point that we have to be motivated to do stuff. I just can't agree with some of the ways you frame it, like "motivation fairy," for example.

Foremost, I would say "Motivation" is NOT – repeat NOT – "wishing" for anything. "Wishing for a nice return" on anything you don't put the work into is just wasting time. Motivation is action – it is actively working to create a result, a tangible reality.

When I was a kid, I was looking at a painting in a museum. The eyes in the painting seemed to follow you wherever you were in view of it. I told my dad I wanted to paint eyes like that. My dad said, "But, swetie, there are no girl artists." I took that as motivation and I damn well learned to do eyes like that!

I wanted an education. My "family" didn't even expect me to finish high school. They thought I should find a boy and get married and start having babies. I'm grad school educated.

I wanted a loving, loyal, and trusted family. I wasn't born into such a family. But, I was motivated and I built that family for myself.

That is what motivation is. That's what it's for. If you aren't moved to do the thing then you have not found your motivation.
