I can't say I agree with this. IME, commenting should be because you like what your read and want that to be known, or because you have something to contribute to a larger conversation. If profile views are gained in doing so, that's a bonus. The real reward is discovering writing you want to read.

I don't ever read and comment expecting anything in return for the gift of writing I enjoy.
