I don't mind highlights. It would be nice, though, if after you saw them, you could turn them off or background them somehow. What I dislike is seeing my notifications flooded with other people's highlights of things in someone else's post which I highlighted. Seriously, why do I need to know what you highlighted on Perlmuutter's post?
