I don't think it's as much a matter of individual workers' inconsideration as it is employer unreasonable expectations. I think everyone would prefer to stay home in bed when they're sick. But, as someone who has always suffered poor health, I found employers quick to lay off or fire you if you take sick leave – even in a job where I was the ONLY award winning graphic designer on staff, and the one doing a far bigger share of the work putting publications together than any other member of staff – I literally laid out and designed the entirety three of the five magazines they published by myself, plus helped on the other two. They decided they'd rather fire me and hire two less qualified people (and therefore lower paid individually). It didn't even matter that those two new hires salaries were still more than my single salary.

That's the employer mentality. Just look at the recent threatened rail strike. It was primarily about paid sick leave. The union wanted two weeks, I believe. They ended up with one day and were forced by the Federal government stepping in because rail is critical operational infrastructure. Republicans and one democrat (fecking Manchin) voted against the full paid leave requested. Biden says he'll still keeping working to get it for railworkers; but, with the House in republican hands, it's probably a non-starter.
