I don't think people do walk away from relationships easily – even bad relationships. People agonize over it, try to make it work, try to be understood and to understand for the most part. I think it's detrimental to tell people not to leave. Abusers need us to keep convincing ourselves to stay. They make it our fault when we want to leave a bad situation. Whether it's a romance, a family, or a friendship, people don't generally walk away easily.

It feels unkind to lay a guilt trip on someone who may be struggling with such a decision.
