I feel like that is about the intent in your works. Lots of people do "good works" for the look of it or the tax write-off, etc. There is no good in the reasons they do the works. You can't even say, I'm doing this because God said so. It's about intent, about a heart of good. It think that is integral to whole concept of faith too. Religion has turned the idea of faith into an empty gesture, a performative thing. The performance is for the gate keepers, though, not for what is good nor for God. The performative is for the eyes of religion.
