I grew up in fundamentalist evangelical circles. I watched my parents become increasingly entrenched and more extreme in their beliefs, as they went from SBC to AoG to FWB to CoN and from there ever more fundamentalism entrenched holy roller churches. I started pulling away as a teenager, when they landed in the AoG. By the time I started college, I was manipulated into a Baptist college where I was miserable; but they'd already moved on to CoN.

Already questioning before I even got there, I only spent a semester at that college. But, it was nearly the end of my faith. I tested some other faiths and denominations with rather skeptical intent. But, it was a new friend in college — the sister of my heart — who helped me find my way back to faith.

Sadly, my kin continued on their path of churches that were increasingly fundamentalist, but preaching the prosperity gospel with heavy Dominionist overtones. That included being rigid forced birthers and staunch republican voters. They and their peers were MAGA long before Trump handed them that name.
