I have an overcoat I feel similarly about. I've had it for something like 25 years. It's still hanging in my coat closet. I bought it when we lived in MO and faced much colder winters. I wore it for years as my only coat and it shows the wear, especially in the disintegrating lining. It's also very much too big for me now. But, it remains the most comfortable and warmest coat I've ever owned.
I pulled it out the other day, when I went to the doctor for covid treatment. We were experiencing first real cold NC has seen in a couple of years. Wearing it again recalled for me all the wonderful reasons I love that old coat. I wish I could have it refurbished.
I replaced with a a leather coat we got an excellent deal on. But, ten years later, the leather coat is still heavy, bulky, stiff to wear, and just not as warm as the wool coat with the satin lining — even though the leather coat has a faux fur lining. The coat just isn't comfortable. It doesn't come out of the closet often because NC just doesn't have the cold of MO.
