I haven't had to do this. But, my son has been profiled. He was actually told by a cop working at his school that, because he was Middle Eastern, he was a violence risk. He was twelve and had called down a group of white boys harassing a newly arrived Mexican immigrant student. Those same boys responded by telling my son that Trump was going to throw him and his father in the gas chambers. But, the cop said my son was the "violence risk."

Early in the Pandemic, I had to deal with 8 cops rolling up to my front door to "have a talk" with my son. A neighbor – with whose son he went to middle school – called the cops and said "a Middle Eastern man with a knife was looking in windows."

This was during the Lockdown of 2020. His only outlet was walks in the woods nearby with his camera. He always went out in his heavy hiking boots and gear – including a sheathed karambit knife worn on his belt. The cops didn't knock on my door before they had their "talk" with my then 16-year old son. After he'd deflected their concerns by revealing he was an EMS student, interning for his training (He attends a magnate school healt sciences academy). Only THEN did they decide they'd let this minor's parents know everything was okay.

NOTE: My little office is at the back of our house. The preceding events were happening in our driveway.

I fully believe the only reason my son wasn't taken into custody that day is because of his EMS badge, which he happened to have on him.
