I know what you mean in this essay.

Maybe you think I’m being paranoid, but Laurie Notaro wrote a book about this same phenomenon. It’s called, “Excuse Me While I Disappear: Tales of Midlife Mayhem.” If you haven’t read her book you should, because it’s hilarious.
