I mean… you're not wrong. If my son half-Persian son was still in grade school, I'd still be wanting to move the DC-area for his sake. I wanted to do so back in 2016 when school bullies assaulted him and threatened that "Trump is gonna send you and your dad to the gas chambers."

We just couldn't afford to move. Affording such a move is the main thing holding most marginalized people trapped where they are.

But, the real problem is that there are too few progressives and liberals in those backward places to counter the politics of cruelty so prevalent in roughly 27 states. And, because of gerrymandering and other voter suppression efforts, those red states are likely to stay red unless they are massively overwhelmed with votes for democrats. Thanks the electoral college, those states which have a fraction of the population of coastal states, have an outsized control over our nation – it's how we've ended up with this Dominionist theocratic minority rule.

The real solution is to break the stranglehold of gerrymandering and electoral college manipulations.
