I remember reading in my high school child development section of the homemaking class mother made me take about how pets may impart important life learning for children in care, empathy, and ultimately dealing with death.

My son is grown now and his only ever pet is still alive. But, he is seeing our Gizzy start going blind. He insists we can never move because of it.
