I take your meaning. People don't always live up to our expectations. However, I don't believe it's the fault of having expectations.
We have a right to certain expectations of people in our lives. For example, I have a right to expect better treatment of myself and my little immigrant family from my bigoted kin. Growing up, I had the right to expect better care and parenting from Mother and Father.
For that matter, we all have a right to expectations of respect and consideration from everyone we encounter. It is our right to expect civility from strangers. That's how civil society works.
