I think we all experience something similar on our writer's journeys. I used to "jot down notes" with my drawings in my sketch diary. I viewed them as little throw away lines. In college, someone was looking through on of my sketch diaries and commented on how much they liked the poems. It had never occured to me that I was composing poetry.

My current serialized novel-in-progress here on Medium is from a story written thirty years ago. It was just never edited or shared. I didn't believe I was a writer. After all, no one would want to read my silly little story.

I think a platform like Medium encourages growth and inreasing fearlessness into writers, pushing us to bare our creative souls.
