I think what comes next, if Dems gain a clear majority, is that the GOP falls apart. If we win decisively, the GOP will descend into irrelevancy and fall apart. It's not that difficult to imagine — political parties have faded into oblivion before in America.

Then, with the GOP consigned to the trash-bin of political history, the Democrat party breaks up. If you look at all the people under the Dem "big tent," they range from democratic conservatives, moderates, democratic socialists, and far left groups. Without the clear and present danger to democracy in America presented by the current GOP, I think the really rather disparate groups will break up into two or more political parties.
