I think you just said something important here. "Talk of decline is easy to grasp." Maybe that's why rightwing's culture wars and fear mongering is so effective with the political rightwing base. It kind of answers that question, "Why do the right keep voting for politicians who demonstrably hurt their lives and the futures of their children?"
