I think you miss the actual changes unfolding. The Democrat party is not going anywhere. It is becoming a more and more progressive party. I and my closest friends are all progressives and we all support the party electorally, even though most of us are still registered as independents (myself included). We have the education and pragmatism to recognize the party has been for more than a decade and continues to be in the midst of a paradigm shift. This shift is as tectonic as was the shift from the post Civil War Democrats to the New Deal Democrats.

In my estimation, the party hit the point of no return when America elected Obama. The paradigm shift has been accelerating since. Biden has embraced that shift, if somewhat cautiously, and is clearly committed to continuing the Obama legacy. The Obama legacy seems to me to be the genesis of this shift.

Unfortunately, the GOP has been undergoing its own paradigm shift from the party of Nixon and his Southern Strategy, to the party of Reagan, to the Tea Party, culminating in the party of Trump. The now regressive GOP is collapsing, real time, and doing all in its power to drag all of America and the world down with it — just as the post Civil War Democrat party’s collapse began with the secession and culminated in with FDR’s near complete overturn of the old guard. We can only hope someone soon rises up to break the GOP’s old guard’s death grip on our sociopolitical future.
