I think you're missing that it is exactly what they are doing with their attempts to ban books. They are trying to force their version of "idealogical preaching" into our schools and access to information. Your piece ignores their intent to do precisely what you decry: The only indoctrination and idealogical preaching is from the right at everyone else – and their use of legislative means to force their dogma upon us all is succeeding while we argue the semantics of "book banning."

I know you're a thougthful and reasoned writer. I understand the need to defend the use of language you feel. But your piece is arguing semantics. We – Americans in rural states – are in an existential struggle against people who do not accord us the basic humanity of legitimacy in this world. They don't want us to exist, let alone have any presence or voice in their neverwas America.
