I was at a similar point 40 years ago. For what seemed a long while, it felt like I had emptied myself of everything I thought I knew. I was already questioning what I'd been taught were the expectations of my kin and their community. But, what I had known, the world in which I'd been raised, just did not align with the reality of the world I encountered on my own once I left home.
