I was just writing on something similar. They cannot let voters choose them; they must choose their voters. It's about how the rightwing agenda ultimately boils down to one thing: exclusion. They can only cling to power by excluding most people from their voting block. And, they need fear and anger to wall off their gerrymandered voting base.
