I was raised in a fundamentalist evangelical envirionment. I feel the same as you about trusting them. I grew up without trust in those who should have protected me and lifted me up. Nothing I heard and saw of them reflected what I felt and saw in the life and teachings of Christ. They rely more upon the life and writings of Paul than of Christ; even then, they only rely upon bits taken out of context to support their fears and hate. Beyond their performative glory-hawking, hey just always seemed so angry and afraid at their core.
