I would likely have said something similar. Maybe, I would have inquired first if it was harming her own backyard, like a vegetable garden or something. If that was the case, I'd tell her to plant some marigolds, mint, peppermint, etc, which are all plants that keep rabbits out. If you have a vegetable patch, you should be planting those kinds of things around the perimeter anyway.
