I would say to at least the passage of The Civil Rights Act. That's when the GOP looked at the Southern Democrats fleeing the Democratic Party because it turned away from Jim Crow racism. The GOP saw that racist demographic as easy fodder to become their new base. I'd say they threw the ideals of "the Party of Lincoln" out the door and embraced the greed of their naked pursuit of power.
