IKR?! It's so bad for you. They're full of allergens and dirt and even worse. Carpets are proven detrimental to respiratory ailments and have been causally linked to asthma problems in children.

My Gran had multiple rental properties. We were cleaning out on of them after tenants had to be evicted and the carpets were ruined. When my grandather pulled them up, all manner of bus went scurrying. It was sickening

Even the cleanest of housekeepers cannot keep carpeting clean. One of my great aunts, Clarice, suffered cleanliness OCD. She spent her days scrubbing and cleaning her house. She vacuumed the entire house two or three times a day. And, she was an early adopter of the Bissel carpet cleaners; she shampooed her carpets weekly. She decided to put in new carpeting, just for a change of decor. When the workmen pulled up her old carpeting, there was a solid layer of dust and grit under the pad. Aunt Clarice called it "a layer of filth." She nearly lost her mind over it. She spent a week cleaning and scrubbing to obliterate any hint of all that dirt. Afterward, she had tile laid throughout her house, which she mopped twice a day and cleaned with boiling water and bleach once a week for the rest of her life. She never got over that "layer of filth" and never stopped telling anyone who'd listen about the filth of carpets.
