I'm a graphic designer of more than 25 years experience. This kind of thing is not new at all. In my experience, most people have no concept of resolution, color saturation, brightness/contrast, nor layout. I cannot begin to count the number of times a client gave me their graphic, thinking I could just run with the silly teensy-weensy bitmaps. I cringe to think how many times they just said, "Just enlarge it and use that."
