It never ceases to startle me that people take belief to such deadly extremes.

I can scarcely comprehend things like my own mother telling me, when I had a pegnancy scare, that if I was pregnant, it would be my duty to try to have that baby – even knowing I had a three year old son who needed me, and doctors didn't believe I'd make it half way to term, let alone survive to delivery. She even said if I was unconscious in the hospital, she would fight in court to keep my husband from aborting such a pregnancy… because her God says so.
