It really depends. If he had a clean record, he would have likely gotten off with a reprimand. From a similar stories told by both my grandad and my dad, it's more likely he was pressed into reenlisting and transferred to a new division. From their stories of their expriences, it's unlikely he was dishonorably discharged over a drunken insult. Making him reeinlist would be a more severe punishment to my mind, don't you agree?

My grandad was an Army master seargeant in the Army Corps of Engineers. My dad was a Navy chief and headed the aviation mechanics school at NAS Millington when he retired.
