It's always a recipe for disaster when church becomes about the aggrandizement of a particular leader – rather than the grace and love of God. The church is supposed to be the faithful trying to reflect love into the world – to be living reflections of God who is love. But, that's what religion does… it makes everything performative and possessive – the gatekeepers become an army serving the organization and its leaders, rather than living the radical grace and love Christ demonstrated.
