I've seen that too from folks who did everything they were supposed to do. It think their sense of guilt is part of their inherent sense of civic duty. And, I think the lack of that is what drove the anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers – a reflection of American individuality that has morphed into a virtue for being an ass.
