Love sustains my faith. "God is love" and to know love is to know God [1 John 4]. And, Christ told us to be known as His followers by our love for others. When I see that in the world, to me that is a reflection of the image of God. And, seeing that reflection in others, I feel the presence of God.

I see that reflection in people like Martin Luther King, Jr fighting for equal justice and civil rights – not because "God told me to" but because it is the right thing to do, to make his world a better place. I see it Jimmy Carter, especially in Habitat for Humanity. I see it in my son's dedication to emergency medicine as his calling.

What belief they profess matters not at all if there is no love in how they express that belief.
