My grandmother's sister is the one whose husband beat her until she lost her baby, then tried to do it again, forcing her to kill him in self-defense.

My Gran's husband was truly horrible too. But, the near-killing beatings happened to one of her sisters, and a sister of her second husband – not to her.

Sadly, there are reams of such stories. That's why that stupid question irks me so much.
